Maradona era camisa 10 e capitão do espanhol Barcelona. Craque indiscutível. Mas estava de saída para o clube que ele mudaria a história, o Napoli, da Itália.
O destino quis que o jogo de despedida fosse contra o Fluminense, em um torneio amistoso nos Estados Unidos.

Era mais uma das tentativas de adocicar o interesse norte-americano pelo esporte mais popular do mundo.
O time do Fluminense jogou desfalcado, mas ainda assim estava cheio de craques, campeões brasileiros de 1984. O técnico Carlos Alberto Parreira escalou, entre outros, Branco, Romerito, Duílio e o artilheiro Washington (Assis, da dupla que até hoje faz muito flamenguista acordar de madrugada, estava na Seleção).

Barcelona e Fluminense, ao contrário daquela velha piada (que hoje seria meme), de “gol do Barcelona”, foi apertado. Bem apertado. 2 a 2 no tempo regulamentar.
O lance mais curioso aconteceu no segundo tempo. Vendo que não chegaria na bola, Maradona coloca a mão e faz o gol. É muito rápido. Os companheiros correm em direção, comemorando a farsa. O goleiro se desespera. Com o apito do atento juiz anulando o tento, o argentino abre os braços como se não acreditasse.

“La Mano de Dios” contra o Fluminense não funcionou.
Se fosse expulso naquele jogo, será que mudaria algo contra a Inglaterra na Copa do Mundo de 1986? Típica pergunta sem resposta.
